TIGER’S EYE MAGIC / MYSTICAL ATTRIBUTES :
The Bear represents strength, courage, tenacity, endurance, determination, and strong will. The Bear is seen as protector of the weak and guardian of the natural world.
Once considered more precious than Gold, Tiger’s Eye is called the “Stone of Courage”, building confidence and strength. With its wild animalistic energy, Roman soldiers wore engraved Tiger’s Eye to protect them and bring them victory in battle. The gemstone is also a powerful protector against evil, hexes, and curses.
Ancient Egyptians used Tiger’s Eye stone to make eyes for statues of the Gods, believing it to be the “All-Seeing Eye” with divine vision. It was believed to help the deities navigate the afterlife.
Tiger’s eye was worn by Roman soldiers for protection and bravery in battle, and valued in ancient Egypt and China for strength and good fortune.
Tiger’s eye is used as an aggressive defensive barrier against ill intentions. It is used to ward off as well as unbind active curses and hexes.
TIGER’S EYE HEALTH & WELL-BEING ASSOCIATIONS :
Tiger’s Eye is believed to increase energy, physical stamina and strength.
It is also said to help balance the endocrine system and regulate hormones.
Some use it to strengthen bones and aid recovery from joint or spinal injuries.
TIGER’S EYE DESCIPTIONS :
Tiger’s Eye is a chatoyant metamorphic gemstone that is usually metamorphic rock with a golden to red-brown color and a silky lustre. As members of the quartz group, Tiger’s Eye gains its silky, lustrous appearance from the parallel intergrowth of quartz crystals and altered amphibole fibers that have mostly turned to limonite.
It is famous for its rich golden-brown colors, silky luster, and a distinct moving band of light that resembles the slit eye of a cat or tiger.
Tiger’s Eye is made of silicon dioxide (SiOâ‚‚) intergrown with parallel quartz crystals and altered amphibole or limonite fibers.
It displays a silky, wavy shimmer that moves across the surface as the stone turns under light. Colors range from classic golden brown and yellow-brown to reddish-brown (oxblood) and blue (known as hawk’s eye).
| • Formula / Composition | SiO2 (silicon dioxide [silica], bundled with parallel parallel fibers or columns of altered riebeckite/crocidolite (asbestos) that have been stained golden-brown by iron oxides like limonite) | |
| • Crystal System | Trigonal – Rhombohedral | |
| • Mineral Class | Silicates – Quartz / Chalcedony | |
| • Habit | Tiger’s eye does not form distinct, individual crystal points with visible faces. Instead, it exhibits a massive or fibrous crystal habit, occurring compactly in veins and as dense rock masses with a characteristic silky luster and chatoyancy (cat’s-eye effect). Built from parallel intergrowths of quartz crystals and altered amphibole fibers (mostly limonite or goethite). The golden-brown colors come from iron oxide staining within the original fibrous matrix. | |
| • Mohs Hardness | 6.5 – 7 | |
| • Specific Gravity | 2.58 – 2.64 | |
| • Refractive Index | 1.544 – 1.553 | |
| • Birefringence | Weak, 0.009 – 0.010 | |
| • Optical Dispersion | Very low, 0.013 | |
| • Optic Character | Biaxial Positive (+) | |
| • Transparency | Most natural tiger’s eye specimens and polished cabochons are completely opaque. Extremely thin slices or specific high-grade segments may show slight sub-translucent or semi-translucent properties when held directly against a bright light source. The dense packing of altered iron and amphibole mineral fibers scatters light, creating its signature silky chatoyancy (cat’s-eye effect) rather than allowing transparency. | |
| • Luster | A distinct silky luster coupled with chatoyancy (a moving band of reflected light like a cat’s eye), created by parallel fibrous mineral inclusions inside a quartz structure. Takes on a glass-like glossy finish when cut and polished into cabochons or beads. |
CLEANSING AND CHARGING TIGER’S EYE :
Rinse under cool running tap or spring water. Pat completely dry with a soft cloth. Do not do harsh saltwater soaks. Prolonged soaking in salt or salt water can erode micro-fissures or damage metallic mountings. Avoid extreme heat or harsh chemicals. Never use boiling water, steamers, or chemical cleaners. Avoid prolonged exposure to water or sunlight. Avoid contact with hard surfaces, and take care not to subject to hard bumps or sharp blows.
Be sure to energetically cleanse your Tiger’s Eye when received, and charge with your own energy and intentions. Use your feather fan to waft over it the smoke of purifying incense. Use sound vibrations from a singing bowl, bells, or tingsha chimes while quickly and carefully passing through the flame of an yellow, orange, or gold candle. Place in a (preferably Selenite or Clear Quartz, just not any kind of metal) bowl on top of a bed of dead sea salt and leave soaking in the moonlight for at least four hours. Remove from the bowl, rinse for 30 seconds in (ideally natural, like a stream or in the rain) running water, then gently dry with a cloth (BE CAREFUL with stones that may easily scratch). Hold in your left hand (if wearing for receiving intentions) or right hand (if wearing for emitting intentions) and meditate your intentions and energy onto the stones for half an hour.
Alternatively, cleanse by smudging then holding under running water (or leaving out in rainwater) for at least 30 seconds, dry, and gently place on top of a bed of sea salt on a windowsill after sunset for a few hours.
Because your gemstones can absorb negative energy, avoid allowing others to touch or handle them and be sure to cleanse regularly. Recharge as needed by placing in the sunlight or moonlight for a few hours, or by burying in the earth for a day or two.
