MABON HERBAL TEA INGREDIENTS

• Rooibos – Rooibos leaves are used to make an herbal tea that has been popular in Southern Africa for generations. The tea has a sweet, slightly nutty, earthy flavor, similar to yerba mate or tobacco.  Rooibos tea does not contain caffeine and has low tannin levels compared to black tea or green tea. It is usually prepared in the same manner as black tea, sometimes with the addition of milk, lemon, sugar, or honey. It is also served as lattes, cappuccinos or iced tea. The magical intentions of Rooibos include strength, courage, determination, patience, rejuvenation, resiliency, inner peace, dream work, and grounding.

• Red Rose Petals – A very faint rose-like aroma with a very mild pleasant flavor.

• Cinnamon chips – Cinnamon is chiefly employed for its smooth muscles relaxing effects. Its warm, reassuring scent helps with concentration. The magical intentions of Cinnamon include healing, love, success, purification, protection, psychic awareness, good luck, peace, prosperity, communication, happiness, harmony, inspiration, knowledge, meditation, spirituality, tranquility, wisdom, and banishing negativity.

• Ginger Root – Ginger lends a pungent, spicy note to herbal teas. Ginger is one of the best herbs you can use for stomach complaints. A ginger infusion can help to relieve problems with nausea, indigestion, cramping, and gas. Ginger has a pleasant taste and makes a delicious tea. The magical intentions of Ginger Root include health and healing, love, energy, prosperity, success, courage, charm, articulation, people skills, communication, making speeches, and confidence.

• Cardamom Seed – Cardamom seed is a staple seasoning in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisines, in which it is used to flavor meat, vegetables, baked goods, coffee and other beverages. The spice is also a constituent in gahwa, a festive coffee blend that has become recognized as a symbol of hospitality in Indian households. Magically, Cardamom is useful in any situation calling for eloquence when you must charm your audience, such as when doing a speech or presentation.  Cardamom is a stimulating herb that relaxes the body and clarifies the mind.

• Madagascar Vanilla Bean Pieces – The exotic and floral fragrance of the tiny seeds inside each vanilla “bean” lend a warm, rich, spicy-sweet flavor. Spend the autumn equinox giving thanks for what you have, whether it is abundant crops or other blessings. Mabon, the original “Thanksgiving”, is the time of year when farmers determined if there would be enough food for the winter. It is also the time to set intentions that involve ending bad relationships, unhealthy habits, and self-destructive beliefs.

Make a warm cup of Mabon Herbal Tea. Find a quiet private space to reflect. Anoint then light your candles, then light your incense. Get comfortable and take three deep breaths. Ask the gods/goddesses to be with you and watch over you.

To celebrate the harvest festival Mabon and invite balance and harmony into your life, pick apples, grapes, gourds, pumpkins, and other seasonal harvests. Create a cornucopia including pinecones, seeds, and the colors red, orange, yellow, brown, copper, and green. Celebrate with foods like turkey, other foul birds, corn, beans, squash, apples, pumpkins, cider, root vegetables, pomegranate, wine, and generally foods that represent sustenance after death. Burn Mabon Incense. Add the stones amber, citrine, cat’s eye, aventurine, sapphire, and jasper to the alter, along with flowers such as sunflower, thistle, and marigold. Honor the deities Mabon, the Green Man, Demeter, Persephone, Morgan, Pomona, and Inanna. Also include animal symbols like owl, stag, blackbird, and salmon. Dress your feast table with orange and/or yellow candles. Take turns expressing what you are grateful for, what your hopes are for the coming year, and what your personal goals are, while releasing any burdens. If alone, find a quiet space to meditate and journal on these things, then treat yourself to a nice meal.

When you’re ready to relax, enjoy a hot herbal bath. And before bed, enjoy a warm cup of Moon Milk (cow’s milk, honey, and cinnamon).
