Malachite absorbs negative energies that cause emotional pain. The gemstone helps the user release emotional trauma and negative experiences.

During the Middle Ages, it was customary to wear Malachite engraved with a figure of the Sun, which would boost magickal power.

In ancient Egypt the color green (wadj) was associated with death and the power of resurrection as well as new life and fertility. Ancient Egyptians called Malachite the “God stone”. They believed that the afterlife contained an eternal paradise, referred to as the “Field of Malachite”, which resembled their lives but with no pain or suffering. And they wore the gemstone as a talisman to detect danger, avoid death, and for protection from negative entities. It is believed that Malachite breaking is a warning sign of danger coming.

Malachite has been historically worn for protection from lightning and contagious diseases, and for health, success, and constancy in the affections. It is a stone of fortune, attracting opportunities, money, prosperity, and abundance. It encourages the user to take risks and embrace change, as well as take responsibility for their own thoughts and actions.

A 17th-century Spanish superstition held that having a child wear a nugget of Malachite would help them sleep, and keep evil spirits at bay. Marbodus of Rennes (archdeacon and schoolmaster at Angers, France, then Bishop of Rennes in Brittany) recommended Malachite as a talisman for young people because of its protective qualities and its ability to help with sleep. Pieces of malachite are also hung over children’s beds as talismans to protect and guard them.

Malachite acts as an energetic sponge that absorbs heavy and ill-intentioned vibrations, so it should be frequently cleansed and recharged.

MALACHITE DESCRIPTION :

Malachite is a vibrant, opaque green copper carbonate hydroxide mineral known for its striking concentric bands, concentric rings, and swirling patterns of light green, dark green, and nearly black-green. The gemstone’s name is derived from the Greek malochites lithos, meaning “mallow-green stone”. It was given its name due to its resemblance to the leaves of the mallow plant.

Malachite forms as a supergene mineral in the oxidized zones of copper deposits, typically where fluids and water tables react with limestone and carbon dioxide. Copper gives Malachite its green color.

During antiquity and for Renaissance artwork, malachite was ground into fine powders to create green paint. Today, it is carved into decorative objects, vases, and statues, or cut into cabochons and beads for jewelry.

Raw malachite contains copper and can be hazardous if inhaled as dust or ingested. Polished malachite is safe to touch, but you should use care if handling unpolished stones. Raw pieces can leave microscopic, copper-rich dust particles on your fingers. If you touch your mouth or eat without washing your hands, you can accidentally ingest copper, which causes heavy metal poisoning.

Never put malachite in water to make crystal elixirs.

CLEANSING AND CHARGING MALACHITE :

Dust first using a soft paintbrush or feather duster to gently sweep away loose dust. Dampen a cloth with lukewarm water and a tiny drop of mild soap (if greasy). Wipe the stone carefully. Completely pat dry right away with a clean, soft cloth. Do not let it air dry. Never soak malachite or hold it under running water. Prolonged water exposure ruins its polish and structure. Never use harsh chemicals, acids, vinegar, lemon juice, ammonia, bleach, or commercial jewelry cleaners. Never use ultrasonic or steam cleaners. Avoid contact with hard surfaces, and take care not to subject to hard bumps or sharp blows.

Be sure to energetically cleanse your Malachite when received, and charge with your own energy and intentions. Use your feather fan to waft over it the smoke of purifying incense. Use sound vibrations from a singing bowl, bells, or tingsha chimes while quickly and carefully passing through the flame of a Green or Black candle. Place in a (preferably Selenite or Clear Quartz, just not any kind of metal) bowl on top of a bed of dead sea salt and leave soaking in the moonlight for at least four hours. Remove from the bowl, rinse for 30 seconds in (ideally natural, like a stream or in the rain) running water, then gently dry with a cloth (BE CAREFUL with stones that may easily scratch). Hold in your left hand (if wearing for receiving intentions) or right hand (if wearing for emitting intentions) and meditate your intentions and energy onto the stones for half an hour.

Alternatively, cleanse by smudging then holding under running water (or leaving out in rainwater) for at least 30 seconds, dry, and gently place on top of a bed of sea salt on a windowsill after sunset for a few hours.

Because your gemstones can absorb negative energy, avoid allowing others to touch or handle them and be sure to cleanse regularly. Recharge as needed by placing in the sunlight or moonlight for a few hours, or by burying in the earth for a day or two.
