EMERALD DESCRIPTION :

Emerald is a gemstone and a variety of the mineral beryl, colored green by the trace amounts of chromium or sometimes vanadium. This member of the beryl family ranks among the traditional “big four” gems along with diamonds, rubies and sapphires. In the 1960s, the American jewelry industry changed the definition of Emerald to include the green vanadium-bearing beryl. As a result, vanadium Emeralds purchased as Emeralds in the United States are not recognized as such in the United Kingdom and Europe. In America, the distinction between traditional Emeralds and the new vanadium kind is often reflected in the use of terms such as “Colombian Emerald”. The word Emerald is derived from Vulgar Latin (informal Latin) and means “green gem”. Emeralds can be found in shades of bluish-green, grayish-green, to green.

CLEANSING AND CHARGING EMERALDS :

Mix lukewarm water with a drop of mild dish soap. Let the jewelry soak for 1 to 2 minutes maximum, gently scrub the setting and underside with a soft toothbrush, rinse in clean lukewarm water, and pat dry with a soft microfiber cloth. Never use harsh chemicals, bleach, alcohol, acetone, or strong detergents that strip the natural oils or resins used to treat emerald fractures. Do not use ultrasonic or steam cleaners. High heat and intense vibrations can crack the stone or cause fracture-filling oils to sweat out. Avoid long soaking. Extended time in liquid can weaken internal treatments. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight. Avoid contact with hard surfaces, and take care not to subject to hard bumps or sharp blows.

Be sure to energetically cleanse your Emerald when received, and charge with your own energy and intentions. Use your feather fan to waft over it the smoke of purifying incense. Use sound vibrations from a singing bowl, bells, or tingsha chimes while quickly and carefully passing through the flame of a Green, Pink or Black candle. Place in a (preferably Selenite or Clear Quartz, just not any kind of metal) bowl on top of a bed of dead sea salt and leave soaking in the moonlight for at least four hours. Remove from the bowl, rinse for 30 seconds in (ideally natural, like a stream or in the rain) running water, then gently dry with a cloth (BE CAREFUL with stones that may easily scratch). Hold in your left hand (if wearing for receiving intentions) or right hand (if wearing for emitting intentions) and meditate your intentions and energy onto the stones for half an hour.

Alternatively, cleanse by smudging then holding under running water (or leaving out in rainwater) for at least 30 seconds, dry, and gently place on top of a bed of sea salt on a windowsill after sunset for a few hours.

Because your gemstones can absorb negative energy, avoid allowing others to touch or handle them and be sure to cleanse regularly. Recharge as needed by placing in the sunlight or moonlight for a few hours, or by burying in the earth for a day or two.
