Watch this celestial event of 25 to 100 shooting stars per hour most intensely from the late evening of January 2nd to the early morning of January 3rd

This spectacle of meteors is expected to last only about 6 hours, seen most easily in the Northern Hemisphere. NASA reports the Quadrantids have the potential to produce 60 to 200 meteors per hour, but due to likely cloudy conditions it is more likely that probably 25 to 100 per hour may be visible. The entire event actually began December 26, 2024 and will continue through January 16, 2025. But the most intense period will be from the late evening of January 2nd to the early morning of January 3rd. During this time, the moon will be in its waxing crescent phase. The best places to view the event are unobstructed by light pollution, like from a park or rooftop of a high building. Find a dark spot, lie flat on your back with your feet toward the southeast, give your eyes about 20 minutes to adjust to the dark, and avoid looking at your phone.

This meteor shower is a result of the Earth passing through a trail of rocks and dust left behind by the asteroid 2003 EH1 that burn up as they enter the Earth’s atmosphere. The Quadrantids streak across the sky at up to 91,800 miles per hour.
